welcome to bell valley
One of the most important realities that continues to demand the attention of those who live in and support the young South African democracy is the continuing HIV/Aids pandemic and its impact on the nation’s social, political, spiritual and economic well-being. The country might have shed the shackles of political oppression and injustice, but a new ball and chain is hampering her progress. The struggle for liberation is therefore continuing in a very real sense in South Africa. Renewed insight, initiative and commitment is needed to set this nation truly free before she will be able to bloom into her full potential. View our pictures in the gallery.

The Bell Valley Initiative (BVI) is a non-governmental organization based in Somerset West, South Africa. The organization has as its objective to identify and maintain holistic, effective and sustainable projects that address the challenges and realities of HIV/AIDS in the geographically recognizable Helderberg basin and surrounding wine lands area of the Western Cape. BVI’s main areas of focus are:
- Support and care for vulnerable children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS
- Pro-active prevention.
It is the organization’s vision to strengthen and empower those individuals and communities that suffer most because of HIV/AIDS. To overcome the reality of HIV/AIDS we have to search inside ourselves to find passion and commitment and reach beyond ourselves to bring:
- HEALTH: Hand
- GROWTH: Leaf
- HOPE: Key
Where Are We?
The Bell Valley Initiative’s name refers to the Helderberg Mountain that is shaped like a bell and features majestically in the midst of a handful of Western Cape settlements: Somerset West, Strand, Lwandle, Nomzamo, Chris Nissen Park, Macassar, Gordons Bay and the surrounding wineland areas. The BVI operated in the valley that nestles at the foot of this well-known landmark.
